Join the summer's biggest adventure - climbing Kilimanjaro in June 2025
A walk on Kilimanjaro is more than an ordinary hike. You will ascend the highest freestanding mountain in the world. Wonderful peoples, and a trip you'll remember, for the rest of your life.
It's an expedition to the top of Africa and a personal challenge. To ensure that your trip is a success, it is absolutely crucial to prepare well and pack wisely.
The dream of Kilimanjaro! Africa's highest mountain, 5895m. A wonderful trip, if you choose a good player -and enough days in the mountains. We sell Machame route (6n/7d), Rongai route (6n/7d) and Lemosho (7n/8d). For all routes, we add one extra day of acclimatization, so you get the best possible trip - and the greatest possible top chance. We would advise against the cabin route via Marangu, due to a lot of traffic and too fast ascent, and we do not sell it. On our programs we have about 95% to Uhuru Peak!
Kilimanjaro can be mild fine days, but it can also blow up and the peak night can be sour and cold. Wool products are great, and from the first camp, the wool shirt will be the favorite. Pack the equipment in a sturdy bag, max 15kg. What you don't need on the mountain, you get locked in the hotel you stay in before/after the mountain hike. Bring a small bag for this laundry. If you are going on safari afterwards, you will be able to leave your Kilimanjaro bag in Arusha, so that there is only a small bag to join the safari (there is no room for suitcases in the safari cars).

Acclimatization Day
Shira Camp (3850m) -via Lava Tower (4500m) -Barranco Camp (3900m). An important day of acclimatization. The first part of the day passes through a dry landscape, while it turns green and lush down towards Barranco Camp.
Approx 10km/walking time 7-9h.

We proceed to Karanga camp 3900 m
Barranco Camp (3900m) -Karanga Camp (3900m). These two camps are located at the same altitude, but the day starts with a steep ascent, so that it becomes part of the altitude meter. You will see many groups pass by this camp, to go directly to Barafu, but they then get a very long day - before a subsequent long peak night. Not to recommend.
Approx. 6km/walking time about 5h.

We ascend to 4,600 m above sea level at Barafu Camp
Karanga Camp (3900m) -Barafu Camp (4600m). Now the vegetation is disappearing and it is gradually becoming desert landscapes, but great views towards the mountain. Today it is moving steadily and slowly upwards. Pole-pole.Lunch on arrival camp, and now just eat/drink/rest before the upcoming peak night.
Approx. 5km/walking time 4-5h.

We reach Africa's highest peak at 5895 meters above sea level
Barafu Camp (4600m) -Uhuru Peak (5895m) -Mweka Camp (3100m). We crawl out of our sleeping bags at 10pm, and gather in the food tent for supper and hot drinks. We fill water bottles/thermos, and get the bag ready. With headlamps -and maybe down jackets, it's off at midnight. We slowly ascend, and after about 6 hours we reach the crater rim at Stella Point (5725m). Now the day begins to brighten — and in the minutes before sunrise, the sky is a spectacle. Here you should remember that you are going to be tired, very tired.
But if you have arrived here, you just have to decide that you SHOULD go all the way up, as long as you are just tired and not sick. And we can promise you that you will gain new strength when the sun and daylight come. All the steepness has now been cleared, from here it is only slightly hilly towards the top. Enjoy the view towards the glacier massif on the left -it is beautiful!
After about an hour we are at UHURU PEAK, Africa's highest peak, at 5895m above sea level. Enjoy the moment! The descent goes very much easier. Back in Barafu camp there will be a short stop for lunch, before further down to Mweka camp. In some cases, the guide will suggest that you spend the night in Millenium camp (a little shorter, but longer the next day).
Approx 19km/walking time about 14-18h.

On the way down
Mweka camp (3100m) -Mweka street (1800m) -Moshi. For the first time during the trip, you can choose your own pace! Some run about with the porters, others calmly enjoy the beautiful walk through the rainforest -and the latter may catch sight of the monkeys acrobatically flitting themselves from tree to tree.
At Mweka street we say goodbye to our local friends - who have probably impressed you big with their knowledge, strength and cooking skills over the past week. After lunch we drive back to Moshi and our hotel. Luggage with clean clothes is waiting here. A long shower -and a dip in the pool do good!
